Iğdır University Environmental Problems Application and Research Centre (ÇEVMER) and Iğdır Nature Conservation and National Parks Branch Directorate (DKMP) organised a panel on ‘Wildlife and Ecotourism’ on the occasion of 9 May World Migratory Birds Day.
Moderated by Assit. Prof. Dr. Belkıs Muca Yiğit, important issues such as the protection of wildlife, the importance of ecotourism and environmental problems were discussed by experts.
The panel started with a speech on ‘Birds and their importance in wildlife’ by Dr. Emrah Çelik, one of the academicians of the Hunting and Wildlife Programme of the Department of Forestry of the Vocational School of Technical Sciences and also the Director of KUŞMER. Mete Türkoğlu, the Provincial Branch Manager of Nature Conservation and National Parks Iğdır, then took the floor and talked about ‘Protected Areas and Ecotourism’
Assit. Prof. Dr. Sevtap Tırınk, one of the academicians of Environmental Health Programme of Vocational School of Health Services and ÇEVMER Manager, shared information about ‘Environmental Problems and Ecotourism and the Effects of These Problems on Wildlife’. Hüseyin Yıldız, News Director of Anadolu News Agency, had the last word in the panel. In his speech, Yıldız explained ‘Iğdır's Ecotourism Potential, Iğdır Mountaineering Activities and Camping Activities’ and drew attention to the natural beauties of Iğdır, emphasised the importance of mountaineering and camping activities in terms of tourism in the region by emphasising the ecotourism potential of the region.
While the panel aimed to raise awareness on the protection of natural life and sustainability of wildlife, important information on the ecotourism potential of the region was also shared.
The panel, organised by ÇEVMER in cooperation with DKMP, was successfully concluded with the interest and contributions of the participants.
