About Us

About Our Centre

Igdir University Ornithology Application and Research Centre operates in Turkey's biodiversity-rich geography, especially focusing on the unique ecosystem of the Aras River Bird Sanctuary. Our centre aims to highlight the uniqueness of the Aras River Bird Sanctuary by adopting the mission of protecting the bird richness on this important corridor and determining migration routes. The centre takes important steps in the field of avian science with pioneering methods such as scientific studies, genetic barcoding, and determination of migration routes with geographical tracking devices. Located in one of Turkey's biodiversity hotspots, our centre aims to promote bird richness and conservation efforts not only regionally but also nationally and internationally worldwide..

Aim of Our Centre

The organisation's objective is to enhance public awareness of birds and the natural environment through the dissemination of research findings on avian behaviour, habitats and ecosystem roles. Additionally, the objective is to develop solutions to prevent habitat loss and support sustainable ecosystems by identifying endangered bird species and implementing conservation projects. The Centre is dedicated to making a significant contribution to the field of nature conservation, with the objective of becoming a pioneering institution in the field of ornithology while encouraging the sharing of knowledge.

Activity Areas

1The objective is to enhance the understanding of the natural diversity in the region by undertaking a comprehensive investigation into the avian species and ecosystems within the distinctive geographical context of Igdir Province..

2.Monitoring migration, breeding and feeding habits of bird species living in Igdir Province, determining population changes and creating early warning systems against potential threats.

3. To emphasise the importance of birds in the ecosystem and to raise awareness of nature conservation by organising bird science trainings for Igdir University students and the local community

4. To support ecosystem health and increase biodiversity by identifying habitats of endangered bird species and carrying out habitat protection and restoration projects.

5. To cooperate with local administrations, nature conservation organisations and other universities to develop joint projects and share information on the protection of natural resources within the borders of Igdir Province.

6.The Centre disseminates its findings through the publication of articles in scientific journals and the presentation of findings to local media outlets. This is done with the intention of increasing the sharing of information and awareness within society.

7. To transfer the natural richness of Igdir Province to future generations by contributing to sustainable development through ornithological research and conservation activities.
